Playing with Pastels

Hello everyone!

Happy 2010! May this new year bring you joy, health and wealth!
I had some time this last weekend to play around with my oil pastels.
Hugs to all!
Sonia.

Eye

And, last but not the least, the eye!
I am truly excited with my next assignments on this amazing course!
Are you curious? Just wait and see... I will be bringing you fresh updates on my portraiture course!
Hugs to all!

Lips

It was the feature I most enjoyed drawing!

Nose

And here´s the nose...

Ear

I finally finished the individual features studied on the first week of my portraiture course with Cindy Wider. I struggled so much to find some "pyjama time" - as Cindy would say - for my art. But here it is. The ear!

A Window with History

This week I am hosting the drawing challenge at Drawspace.com, and this is my contribution. It was inspired by a photo I have taken, during my holidays, in Guimarães, North of Portugal.
It was the first time I tried my new set of watercolor pencils and it was indeed exciting!! I know the paper was not the most appropriate one (just a 150 gr. drawing paper) but was anyhow suited to give me some pleasurable moments...

Regards to all!

Sonia.

Here is the last shading exercise submitted to Cindy wider for the art course I am taking. The goal was to shade this drawing according to the theory of light and shadow.

Column Fold

Hello, my dear friends!
This is one more shading exercise for Cindy Wider´s online art course. We are studying drapery this week and, although I am using now an extra dark and extra soft brand of pencils that gave me some nice headakes (;p), I am finally happy with the result! I hope the teacher will feel the same way! :D

Silver Kettle

Do you want some tea? :)
I honestly thought I would not be able to complete this shading exercise for Cindy Wider´s online course! "No way!" I though... But, voilá! Here it is with my best effort! It´s incredible how, during the drawing and shading process, I always doubt myself. But then, I just go ahead with it putting aside all the negative thoughts and I just can´t believe my eyes when I look at the final result! It´s indeed a great feeling when you do create something... I am loving my art learning journey!

Oriental Girl

I am just thrilled with my latest drawing!! I know it is not a master piece but for me it has a special meaning since I have really struggled to be able to draw a more realistic portrait! I know I owe this result to my teacher, Cindy Wider, although this is not an exercise for the art course and I haven´t had yet portraiture, but I have used here some of the lessons taken so far!...
This was done with graphite pencils for this week´s drawing challenge in Drawspace.com, and the reference picture was provided by it´s host, An.

Old Hayshed II

A friend of mine just helped me to give a whiter look to the photo I have taken of my exercise! :)
There... doesn´t it look better?

Old Hayshed

My last project for Cindy Wider´s online Course.
This is just an exercise, not a creation of mine.
We were supposed to do the outline drawing with the help of a grid, transfer the drawing to quality paper and then apply all the 6 different pencil strokes we have just learned!
Its yellowish color is defect of the photo... The drawing (on a A3 paper) did not fit into the scanner! :p

Old House

One of the most detailed pencil drawing I have made until now.

Spanish Clogs

This pencil drawing is definitely one of my favorites!
I felt really inspired on that couple of hours... :D
It was done from a reference photo.

Bee...

... or not to be! ;)
A pencil drawing from a reference photo.

Guardian Angel

A graphite pencil creation inspired by a reference photo of a stone figurine.

Bright Day

This drawing is one of everybody´s favorite and was done in colored pencils from a reference photo.

The Bride

This drawing was done with soft pastels on colored paper and had for reference a picture of a friend on her wedding day.

Samantha

This is also the result of one squirkling tutorial from Brenda, on Drawspace.com.
I am just in love with her...

Tulip

This tulip was done with soft pastel on pastel paper having in reference a shading tutorial from Brenda´s.
It was my first experience with soft pastels.

Horse´s Head

One of my first pencil drawings done with the help of Brenda´s tutorials on Drawspace.com.
